Council's annual State Taxation Conference June 18-20 includes many technical sessions

There is still time to register for The Business Council's annual Conferrence on State Taxation, June 18-20 at the Sheraton Saratoga Springs.

Arthur Roth, commissioner of the state Department of Taxation and Finance, will speak during dinner at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.

The Business Council conducts the session in cooperation with the state Department of Taxation and Finance to give tax professionals from business the opportunity to network with experts who write and implement state tax laws.

The Council has sponsored this annual conference since 1984, and it has evolved into the premier session of its kind on state taxation.

The agenda on Wednesday, June 19, includes:

  • A discussion of highlights of newly enacted legislation, by experts from the state Department of Taxation and Finance.

  • A review of tax-related judicial and administrative decisions of the last 12 months led by Mark Klein, Hodgson Russ, LLP.

  • A discussion of the value of strategic state unemployment tax planning featuring Peter Moffitt and Jared Vale of Barnett Associates.

  • An overview of Empire Zones by Deborah Liebman of the state Department of Taxation and Finance, Michael R. Press, Ernst & Young LLP, and officials from Empire State Development (ESD).

  • A presentation on the restructuring of the Department of Taxation and Finance's auditing division.

The agenda on Thursday, June 20, includes:

  • A discussion of executive compensation requirements for stock options and other current and deferred executive compensation, led by Paul Comeau of Hodgson Russ, LLP, and Diann Smith of The Council on State Taxation.

  • A presentation on New York's sales and use tax, to be led by experts from Ernst & Young LLP.

  • A review of combined reportin, led by Domenick Sciortino of the Gelber Organization.

The agenda also includes a golf tournament and a welcoming reception Tuesday, June 18.
