ALBANY—Raising the tipped workers’ wage minimum by 50 percent is a huge increase that should have, at a minimum, been phased in over time. Affected employers are already required to ensure that their employees receive compensation equivalent to or greater than the minimum wage. This dramatic increase only hinders their ability to create new jobs as employers are forced to reduce their overall labor costs and may also result in a net reduction in the tips that affected workers earn.
