The state Insurance Department has unveiled a new Web site designed to help consumers choose a health maintenance organization (HMO) or other health insurer.

The "Consumer Guide to HMOS".

The site was introduced at a time when many consumers are making choices about their future health insurance provider, and, in some cases, changing providers, Greg Serio, superintendent of the department, said.

"It is at this important time that the new Web site can act as a significant resource as health insurance decisions are being made for all New Yorkers and their families," he said.

The site seeks to show how HMOs work, help consumers choose an HMO, and introduce special health programs.
