ALBANY, N.Y.—The 2015 New York State legislative session was a mostly positive one for business. Both the budget and end-of-session negotiations produced pro-business reforms, and we avoided any significant, adverse legislation receiving two-house passage.

The end of session negotiations produced a four-year extension of the state’s real property tax cap, as well as positive bills addressing workers’ compensation issues, improvements in the state’s contract procurement procedures, and rules governing commercial insurance markets.

At the same time, our advocacy efforts were successful in stopping proposals such as the so-called “Child Safe Product’s Act” which would have created an onerous new state-level chemical use and regulation process, and other proposals that would have added new costs and new restrictions on the state’s business community.

Our issue-by-issue summary of the post-budget session is available here. Thank you to all Business Council members that worked with us on our advocacy efforts during the 2015 legislative session. Please contact our Government Affairs staff with any questions or comments.
