ALBANY—The Business Council of New York State has released what Council President Daniel B. Walsh is calling a "love letter" to upstate New York: a new book on the economic, natural, and cultural assets of upstate.

Upstate New York: Corridor to Progress, by Stephen W. Bell, was produced "to spread the good news about upstate and all it has to offer to individuals, businesses, and institutions," said Business Council President Daniel B. Walsh. The book was published by Cherbo Publishing Group, Inc., in collaboration with The Business Council.

"Many Americans, and even some upstate residents, may not fully appreciate upstate's virtues - its great quality of life, its natural assets, its rich traditions and culture, and its dynamic business community," Walsh added. "By telling this great story to the world, we hope this book can spread the word about the beauty and economic vibrancy of upstate."

The 150-page hard-cover book is richly illustrated offers information on a range of topics. Specifically, it includes sections describe western New York, central New York, and eastern New York in detail.

The book also includes descriptions of specific business and industry sectors that are central to upstate New York's economy: manufacturing and R&D; agriculture and food processing; education; finance, insurance, and real estate; construction; insurance; health care and biotechnology; information technology, communications, and media; professional services; tourism and hospitality; retail commerce; transportation, and utilities.

In addition, Upstate New York: Corridor to Progress also provides brief profiles of a sampling of upstate employers, including businesses, universities, and colleges.

Stephen W. Bell, a veteran upstate journalist, is now managing editor of the Buffalo News. He was chosen for the writing by Cherbo, which also controlled the production and distribution of the book. It is available from amazon.com.
