ALBANY—Today's New York Technology Roundtable session, convened by The Business Council of New York State, Inc. focused on SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering's (CNSE) Smart Cities Technology Innovation Center (SciTI) that will transform Albany's historic Kiernan Plaza.
Michael Fancher, vice president for business development and economic outreach at the SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), discussed how CNSE is working to expand the smart phone industry's “virtuous cycle of growth” to encompass emerging smart devices by leveraging the linkages already in place within the computer chip industry.
“The transformation of Albany's iconic Kiernan Plaza into a hub for emerging smart cities technologies is testament to Governor Andrew Cuomo's innovative blueprint and strategic investments in New York's nanotechnology economy,” said Michael Fancher, CNSE vice president for business development and economic outreach. “Fueled by a $4 million investment through the Governor's Regional Economic Development Council initiative, which is leveraging $26 million in private industry support, CNSE's new SciTI Center will create and retain 250 jobs and enable new opportunity and vitality in the heart of downtown.”
“CNSE's new SciTI Center shows how technology and innovation can fuel economic growth,” said Marcus Ferguson, director of government affairs for The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “The New York Technology Roundtable is a forum for businesses in New York to learn the latest and share best practices for implementation.”
In September, Governor Cuomo announced that SEFCU, the largest credit union in the Capital Region; CHA, a full-service engineering firm formerly known as Clough, Harbour & Associates; and Windstream Corporation, the nation's fourth-largest enterprise communications provider will be the first corporate partners at SciTI.
The New York Technology Roundtable, convened by The Business Council of New York State, Inc., is a luncheon seminar series that serves as a resource for members and the greater business community in New York State. Sessions feature topics such as state and federal policies, events, other industry developments, and conclude with an open discussion forum.
