ALBANY, N.Y. — Today, Robert Desiato, director of AT&T Network Disaster Recovery discussed ways to improve advanced communications responses to man-made and natural disasters at the next New York Technology Roundtable session, Disaster Preparedness: Communications Technology in Times of Crisis, held at the Hilton Albany in Albany, N.Y.

Desiato discussed a range of pitfalls that legislators can avoid when advancing legislation for disaster preparedness and recovery.

“Tools to improve advanced communications, including information databases and educational websites that provide the latest information, are essential to proper emergency management,” said Marcus Ferguson, director of government affairs at The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “The longer a community is impacted by a disaster, the longer it takes the business community to get back up and running.”

With over 25 years of experience, Robert Desiato's expertise ranges from network design, equipment management and deployment, network validation testing and disaster response. His extensive background on the AT&T Network, Network Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Planning as well as experience with government clients at the federal, state and local levels allow him to provide a unique perspective to New York businesses on the issue of disaster recovery.

The Business Council supports disaster recovery policies that provide critical relief to distressed communities after a disaster without imposing new mandates and restrictions on various business sectors, including telecommunications providers, energy utilities, and insurance companies.

The Business Council Technology Roundtable is a luncheon seminar series that serves as a resource for members and the greater business community in New York State. Sessions feature topics such as state and federal policies, events, other industry developments, and conclude with an open discussion forum.
