ALBANY— “The proposed taxes on health care and health insurance in the Executive Budget will drive up the cost of health insurance, making it unaffordable for many New Yorkers,” said Kenneth Adams, president & CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “Employers and their workers are already struggling to afford health coverage, many will simply not be able to absorb the increased costs caused by these taxes.”
The budget would impose almost $770 million in new or increased assessments and surcharges on health care and health insurance, including $590 million in the current fiscal year's Deficit Reduction Plan. New Yorkers who purchase private health insurance coverage already pay more than $3.1 billion in health taxes.
“The legislature should reject these taxes that will make it harder for businesses and individuals to afford health coverage,” added Adams.
