The Business Council, Cornell University, and other top universities and research institutions in New York State will hold a conference on genomics May 17-18 at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs.
Other New York institutions that are participating in the event include: Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory; New York University; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; the University at Albany; SUNY-Buffalo; and SUNY-Stony Brook.
This seminar will provide an overview of advances in genomics at New York State universities and other research institutions. Its goal is to give participants new opportunities for linkages between business and academe for genomics-related projects.
Genomics is a rapidly advancing field of study that focuses on understanding the precise functions of genes in plants and animals with an eye towards developing new applications that take advantage of this knowledge. It is revolutionizing many fields of economic and cultural importance, including agriculture, engineering, environmental sciences, public health and medicine.
The advent of genomics means that many of the worlds largest companies are reinventing themselves, reworking their business plans, and committing millions of dollars to research and development in genomics.
