Con Edison's John McAvoy elected to Business Council of New York State board of directors

New York City, N.Y. — John McAvoy, chairman, president and CEO of Consolidated Edison, Inc., was recently elected to the board of directors of The Business Council of New York State.

“The Business Council is pleased to welcome Mr. McAvoy to our board of directors. His expertise will greatly contribute to, and help shape, The Council's mission to create economic growth, good jobs and strong communities,” said Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council.

The Business Council of New York State is a statewide business organization whose membership base encompasses businesses — ranging from Fortune 500 to small business, Chambers of Commerce, non-profits, and educational institutions, and more — working to create economic growth, good jobs and strong communities across New York. It advocates for policies that will improve New York's business climate and help member companies meet their business needs.

Mr. McAvoy joined Con Edison in 1980, and has served in positions of increasing responsibility. In his last post, he served as president and CEO of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., a Consolidated Edison, Inc. subsidiary that operates utility companies in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Prior to his leadership of O&R, Mr. McAvoy served as senior vice president of Central Operations.

Mr. McAvoy serves on the board of directors of Consolidated Edison Inc., the American Gas Association, Edison Electric Institute and the Partnership for New York City. He also serves on the board of trustees of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

Mr. McAvoy holds an MBA from New York University and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Manhattan College. He is a graduate of the David Rockefeller Fellows Program.
