ALBANY— “New York must maintain a safe and viable infrastructure. The current suspension of payments for existing construction projects puts all of us at risk,” said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc.

“Safe roads and bridges are vital to our economy. They allow for the free flow of goods, services and employees,” added Adams. “New York cannot shirk the responsibility to maintain our roads and bridges.”

“Projects such as the repair of the Alexander Hamilton Bridge and dozens of other projects in New York City, upstate and Long Island are essential to our state's economy,” said Adams. “The suspension of payment for these projects is yet another symptom of the fiscal crisis in Albany caused by spending too much on the wrong things. State government must do its job in keeping our roads and bridges safe.”

“In addition to restoring the funding for these vital projects in any emergency appropriations bill, state government needs to find long-term solutions to rebuild New York's aging transportation infrastructure because it has been woefully neglected and under funded for many years,” concluded Adams.
