BILL

S.4920-A (Grisanti) / A.8751 (Schimminger)

SUBJECT

Eliminate Sales Tax on Transportation Services

DATE

Support

This bill repeals and amends sections of the state's tax law to exclude transportation services provided by limousines and black cars from sales tax on services provided. The Business Council supports its enactment.

  • The Business Council supports the efforts of the Limousine, Bus & Taxi Operators of Upstate New York, the state's Black Car industry, the Minority Limousine Operators Association and the NYS AFL-CIO to repeal this sales tax;

  • Limousine and Black Car businesses utilizing sedans, vans, SUVs and limousines were earmarked for this new sales tax in 2009 while it was not imposed on taxi service and areas of the public transportation system;

  • This tax relief would directly affect the largest business segment in New York State - Small Business. The industry reports that 85% of the industry is comprised of operations of three to five vehicles.

For these reasons, The Business Council urges the legislature to enact this legislation.
