The Business Council has formed a new committee that will focus on electronic commerce.
Edmund F. Perry, director of government relations and growth strategies for IBM and former director of government affairs for The Business Council, will serve as the first chair of the "e-commerce"committee.
The committee will serve as a forum in which members can discuss legislation related to the web-based commerce, including use of digital documents and digital signatures in electronic transactions, privacy issues, and "spam," or junk e-mail.
At the June 16 meeting, guest speakers will be Senator Kemp Hannon and Caitlin Halligan. Senator Hannon is sponsoring legislation that would permit the use of verifiable electronic signatures in transactions with businesses and state agencies. Halligan is bureau chief of the Internet Bureau in the office of Attorney General Elliot Spitzer.
