ALBANY, N.Y.—Albany, NY – We applaud Majority Leader Flanagan’s continued commitment to achieving workers’ compensation reform as part of the new state budget. Senators DeFrancisco, Amedore and Akshar have led the push for substantive and commonsense workers’ compensation reforms that will reduce employers’ costs while continuing to protect injured workers. Our state’s comp system is in crisis. With a total cost of $10 billion per year, more than 10 percent of which is incurred by state and local governments, the time for reform is now. That is why we have joined with more than 60 other organizations in calling for workers’ comp reform. Today’s statement by the Senate shows that the voices of thousands of small business owners across New York State are being heard. We look forward to continuing discussions with the Legislature, the Governor and other stakeholders as we move toward a comp reform package.
